A group of Turkish businessmen filed a lawsuit against Uzbekistan at the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes at the World Bank (ICSID), the Spot reported.

The lawsuit file states that the applicants are Mehmet Zeki Obuz, Sevde Yılmaz , Huriye Oğuz and Tasfiye Halinde Obuzlar Gıda, Temizlik Maddeleri, Züccaciye ve Tekstil Sanayi Ticaret Limited Şirketi.

The subject of the dispute is a food company. There are no details given on the site of the center. The organization's secretary general registered the filesuit on June 4. It is currently under review.

In 2007, the Xalq So’zu newspaper (PDF) wrote that Mehmet Zeki Obuz was sentenced in Uzbekistan to 16 years in prison on charges of evasion of customs duties, VAT and excise taxes, embezzlement and waste of budget funds and other crimes.

The publication reported that Mehmet Zeki Obuz arrived in Uzbekistan in 1995. In the same year he became one of the founders of the JV Sundus, and in 1998 - the director general.

Earlier, lawsuits against Uzbekistan were filed to the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes eight times, including cases of Newmont, Metal-Tech, Turkuaz, MTS, Spentex and others.
