Uzbekistan expects that the third consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia, previously planned for 2020, will be held in person, said on Monday the spokesman to the President of Uzbekistan, deputy head of his administration, Sherzod Asadov.

The third consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia was originally scheduled for August 2020 in Bishkek, then the summit was postponed until autumn, but due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic it was postponed to this year. Later, the Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov said in an interview with local media that the summit could be held in 2021 in Turkmenistan.

“Work to this end is ongoing. But the most important thing is that we are working to ensure that this meeting takes place in person. The online format is not even on the table, ”Sherzod Asadov said at a briefing, answering a question about the possible timelines of the third meeting.

Sherzod Asadov noted that the pandemic makes it impossible for us to name the venue and time of the next summit.

“We, together with our partners, have been preparing for the next meeting for one year. A very wide and substantial package of documents is being prepared, which will be signed,” he added.

The first consultative meeting of the heads of state of Central Asia took place in March 2018 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Nur-Sultan, the second - in November 2019 in Tashkent.
