On May 28, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a government meeting dedicated to the construction and maintenance of multi-apartment housing in Uzbekistan. Reportedly, the head of state spoke about the corruption in various areas.

“I need proposals to prevent corruption. It is necessary to combine all [proposals] and open people's eyes. If we do not carry out digitalization, then we will not be able to eradicate corruption. The most important thing is digitalization. Thus, we will save money, increase interest and satisfy the needs of people, society will be different, it will change. Quality, timelines and equity,” he said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that the economic sectors must be corruption-free. According to him, recently, corruption crimes have become more frequent in the Samarkand province.

“Why is corruption happening? Why is land being sold? Where are those indecent officials looking? From July 1, whoever does this, the mayors of districts, cities will be held accountable, we have laws. There are cases when officials are receiving 50 thousand dollars in bribes, cars and etc. What happened to the system in Samarkand? This applies to all areas,” the president said.

The head of state warned that if corruption is detected in a particular state body, the first head will also leave the post.

“The system will be even more rigid, be aware of this. There should be the rule of law - the inevitability of responsibility. People must believe that there is no corruption in Uzbekistan. Every mayor must draw conclusions. We need to speed up the corruption law and show the rule of law - the inevitability of responsibility,” he stressed.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the state "is getting money not for it to be embezzled, but to achieve public prosperity." “The fact that there is no drinking water in Dehkanabad district is my pain. For 27 years we pretended we didn’t see any problems,” he said.

Akmal Burkhanov, director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, said earlier that the president had instructed to expedite the implementation of a system for declaring income and property of civil servants. According to him, the bill will soon be published for public discussion and added that the issue of who exactly will declare income and how to ensure the inviolability of private property is being discussed.
