A perinatal hospital will be built in Nukus (Karakalpakstan) with a grant from the Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan Charitable Foundation (UAE). This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan.

The funds are provided through an intergovernmental cooperation agreement between the UAE and Uzbekistan to draw technical assistance from the Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan Foundation for social projects in Uzbekistan. The document was signed by the Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Shukhrat Vafayev, and the UAE Deputy Minister of Finance Yunis Haji al-Khuri online on May 26.

The total project cost is US$ 27 million, and is fully funded by the Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan Foundation, the MIFT noted.

The new hospital has a capacity of 100 patients. It will include prenatal and maternity wards, wards for mothers and newborns, intensive care units for mothers and children, a surgical department, a hospital, outpatient and consultative diagnostic departments, and laboratories.

Construction work has already begun at the facility and is expected to be completed before 2023.
