Yesterday, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the Director General/Chairman at Russian Railways Oleg Belozerov.
According to the presidential press service, the parties discussed the ways to develop cooperation in the field of railway communication, as well as promoting important infrastructure projects designed to effectively use the transit potential of the entire region.
Particular attention was paid to the resumption of passenger trains, cooperation in the areas of training specialists, improving the railway system in Uzbekistan, increasing the volume of cargo transportation and establishing mechanisms for transporting agricultural products.
The sides separately considered joint promotion of the Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway project with the involvement of international financial institutions. An agreement was reached on the participation of Russian Railways in carrying out work on the comprehensive preparation of the project, including the development of technical documentation, and the early start of construction.
Reference: Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan in February signed a joint action plan for the construction of the 600 km Trans-Afghan railway (Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar). The project can take up to five years to complete. It is planned to draw US$ 4.8 billion in loans for the project. Shavkat Mirziyoyev had said that Russia and neighboring countries showed interest in the project. Recently, the World Bank leadership expressed its readiness to support the project at a meeting with the President.
The press service of Russian Railways reported that in Tashkent, Oleg Belozerov and the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations of Uzbekistan, Nozim Khusanov, signed a memorandum on assistance in attracting Uzbek labor migrants for the construction of railway infrastructure facilities in Russia.
“The document fixes the mutual interest of the parties in cooperation to attract citizens of Uzbekistan to temporary work in Russia. We are talking about interaction in the selection of candidates, management of the process of organized recruitment, professional training, as well as monitoring the employment of attracted citizens,” the statement said.
The company noted that the document is of a framework nature, and the implementation of its provisions will be carried out through the conclusion of separate agreements between the parties.
