The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan (CEC) proposed to create an advisory council of heads of electoral bodies of the CIS countries, the CEC said.
The CEC chairman Zainiddin Nizomhodzhaev and First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Executive Committee Viktor Guminsky discussed bilateral cooperation on May 14 in St. Petersburg.
Viktor Guminsky noted that the CIS Executive Committee supports the initiative of the CEC to create an advisory council for the heads of electoral bodies of the member states of the commonwealth.
The draft regulation on the consultative council was reportedly sent to the CIS countries for reviewing. On June 30, it is planned to hold an online meeting of the expert group of the executive committee to finalize and agree on the document.
Zainiddin Nizomkhodjaev noted at the meeting that the council will promote cooperation between the electoral bodies of the CIS member states "for holding elections and referendums based on international standards."
