Adviser to the President of Uzbekistan in charge of cooperation with citizen and religious organizations, rector of the International Islamic Academy Rustam Kasimov died at the age of 64, announced the director of the Center for Islamic Culture Shoazim Minovarov and confirmed by Gazeta.uz sources.

Reportedly, since the beginning of April he had been treated.

Rustam Kasimov, 65, worked as Deputy Minister (2001-2004) and Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education (2004-2008), was Deputy PM (2004-2009), in charge of the social sphere, science, education, health, culture and responsible for contacts with partners in CIS.

He also served as Rector of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (2001-2004).

From 2011 to 2016 he was retired. On September 16, 2016, he again became Deputy PM/Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education. In June-November 2017, he worked as First Deputy State Adviser to the President and at the same time Rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President. Then he was the state adviser to the president on science, education, health care and sports (2017-2018).

Since July 31, 2018, he worked as the State Adviser to the President on Religious/ in charge of cooperation with citizen and religious organizations; since November 2019, he was the rector of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan.
