Helminth control and elimination among children was launched in Uzbekistan on April 19, the Ministry of Health said. At the first stage, which will last until April 24, children from 2 to 10 years old (over 6.115 million) and schoolchildren under 15 years old (445 thousand) studying in high-risk zones - Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya, Tashkent and Fergana provinces and Karakalpakstan.
Helminthiasis occurs as a result of the ingestion of parasitic worms into the human body. To date, about 250 species of such pests have been identified, of which 9 species have been found in children.
The parasite lays in the human body from 5 to 150 thousand eggs. Their danger is that they quickly develop and spread throughout the body through the intestines, damaging internal organs and systems.
“As part of the mass events, special antihelminthic drugs were delivered to the provinces. Children will receive medicines in kindergartens and schools, and mobile groups organized by primary health care institutions and provincial branches of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Authority wil distribute medicines through the mahallas system to children at home,” the Ministry of Health said.
The second stage of deworming is planned to be organized in six months.
