Historical documents until to 1917, in particular those belonging to the Office of the Governor-General of Turkestan, have been declassified.
At a press conference at the National Press Center of the Uzarchive Agency/Director of the Agency Ulugbek Yusupov briefed on the work done by the agency over the past year. According to Ulugbek Yusupov, one of the problems for historians was that the archival materials of the Governor-General of Turkestan until 1917 were classified.
“In collaboration with the State Security Service, we have declassified historical archival documents dating until 1917. These documents from a total of four funds have puzzled historians for many years. For example, the volumes belonging to the Office of the Governor-General of Turkestan were declassified.
Now historians can come to the archive reading rooms to get acquainted with these documents and use them in their research,” said the director of Uzarchive.
The National Archive of Uzbekistan is the only archive in the country and one of the largest in Central Asia, and today the National Archive of Uzbekistan has more than 3,000 funds. Documents are stored in more than 800,000 storage units.
