Uzbekistan hopes that the visit of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia will take place in person in 2021, stated on Tuesday the Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The timing of the visit will be coordinated by the parties "based on the specific situation," but "in any case, I would like to rule out holding any events online, so that it is not too formal," Foreign Minister Kamilov said.

“We would like these to be personal meetings, well, a full-scale visit, as at normal, so to speak, times. In this regard, we will look at and additionally coordinate with you,” said Abdulaziz Kamilov.

He added: “We still have an overlap here - the presidential elections ... October 24th. If we do not have time to organize the visit it out before that, then there is a proposal to make the first visit to the Russian Federation immediately after the presidential elections. "

Abdulaziz Kamilov also pointed to the rather low rates of new coronavirus cases in Uzbekistan, which makes it possible to discuss "the resumption of previous cooperation in certain areas."

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan noted that now "the possibility of our more active cooperation in the Afghan issue and in the region as a whole is becoming more clear."
