The Uzbek Ambassador to the United States, Javlon Vakhabov, held talks with the chairman of the Uzbekistan Caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Congressman (R. Miss.) Trent Kelly, Dunyo reported.

The U.S. Representative said he was reportedly working on organizing a visit of American lawmakers to Uzbekistan in the second half of 2021 and added he would encourage other bipartisan congressmen to visit the country this fall.

Trent Kelly also expressed his readiness to assist in organizing the second meeting of the Uzbekistan Caucus in March with the participation of Uzbek and American MPs. According to the congressman, this event will facilitate thee reach-out to the US Congress of the reforms and transformations in Uzbekistan during the first term of the presidency of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as provide detailed information on the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation with the United States.

Following the meeting with the congressman, an agreement was reached to maintain constant contacts on topical issues of the Uzbek-American agenda, including inter-parliamentary relations.

In 2017, Trent Kelly initiated the resumption of the practice of organizing visits by members of the U.S. Congress to Uzbekistan. In November 2017, he organized a working trip for a group of American congressmen to Uzbekistan. Subsequently, he visited Uzbekistan two more times - in September 2018 as a general of the Mississippi National Guard, and in November of the same year as a co-organizer of the next visit of the Congress delegation to Uzbekistan.

Trent Kelly led a group of American lawmakers at a May 2018 meeting with the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Capitol Building. The Congressman initiated the formation of the Uzbekistan Caucus in the Congress. Officially, this caucus was registered in the US House of Representatives in August 2018, and in February 2019, its first meeting was held at the Embassy.

In 2019, the U.S. Representative, Trent Kelly, was awarded the high state award of Uzbekistan - the Dustlik (transl. Friendship) Order.
