On February 8, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved amendments and addenda to some regulations due to the improvement of electoral legislation. They were passed by the Legislative Chamber on January 29 and approved by the Senate on February 5.
One of the amendment is the moving of the date of presidential elections, to the Legislative Chamber, to the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, as well as to the representative bodies of provinces, districts and cities from the first Sunday of the third decade of December to the first Sunday of the third decade of October (this year this day falls on October 24).
In addition, amendments were made to the Electoral Code and to the Financing of Political Parties Law.
In his address to parliament at the end of 2020, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that the elections should be held "at a high level, based on national legislation and universally recognized international democratic principles." At the same time, he noted: "We will continue to work on the implementation of the recommendations of international observers at the last elections into the national legislation and practice."
