On January 28, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held an online summit with the President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in, the presidential press service said.
The two leaders agreed to continue regular political consultations and step up inter-parliamentary exchanges, prepare a program of bilateral events to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The presidents also instructed to continue contacts at the level of the governments and departments of Uzbekistan and Korea to promote investment projects and promptly resolve emerging issues. US$ 400 million worth Korean investment is scheduled to be disbursed this year.
In addition, 55 new high-tech projects are being prepared worth over $ 3.4 billion, including the energy sector, oil & gas, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, processing industry, agriculture, infrastructure modernization, transport and logistics, tourism and others.
The heads of state noted the importance of increasing the volume of two-way trade, drawing attention to the leveling of imbalances and diversification of the range of export-import operations, cooperation of phytosanitary authorities to expand the supply of agricultural products. For this, the parties will begin negotiations to enter into a bilateral free trade treaty.
President Moon Jae-in reiterated that the Korean side will provide all-round support in the issue of Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization.
The parties will continue to closely interact within the UN and other international structures, as well as within the framework of the "Republic of Korea - Central Asia" Cooperation Forum to promote programs in the areas of high technologies, "green" and digital economy.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced his continued support for Seoul's efforts to peacefully resolve the situation on the Korean Peninsula. The leaders separately discussed cooperation in the environmental sphere, including the support of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region.
The leaders also reviewed the schedule of upcoming high-level events. Moon Jae-in offered the invitation to Shavkat Mirziyoyev to visit the Republic of Korea.
The memorandum of cooperation in the field of digitalization to promote the "fourth industrial revolution", an agreement on the implementation of a three-year program with the EDCF worth US$ 1 billion, loan agreements for construction projects of a multidisciplinary clinic and a Chemical Technology Center were signed during the Summit.
Deals were inked between relevant companies on the modernization of energy infrastructure facilities in Uzbekistan.
