On January 14, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law amending the Personal Data Law. The Law was supplemented with article 27−1 “Special conditions for processing personal data of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It reads:
"The owner and (or) operator, when processing personal data of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan using information technologies, including on the global information network, is obliged to ensure their collection, systematization and storage in personal data bases on hardware physically located on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan and registered in accordance with the established procedure in the State Register of Personal Data Bases”.
The amendment will take effect in three months - from mid-April.
The Personal Data Law was adopted two years ago - in January 2019 and came into force on October 1 of the same year.
Personal data is "information recorded on an electronic, paper and (or) other material medium relating to a particular individual or making it possible to identify him."
The owner of the personal data base is a state body, an individual and (or) legal entity that has the right to own, use and dispose of the personal data base.
The operator of the personal data base is a state body, an individual and (or) legal entity that processes personal data.
