During his visit to Spain, the Deputy Prime Minister/Chairman of the Tourism Development Committee Aziz Abdukhakimov was hosted by King Philip VI, the Committee said.

The meeting was reportedly held at the royal residence of the Palacio Real de Madrid as part of an official reception on behalf of the Spanish monarch, given in honor of the heads of foreign delegations attending the 113th session of the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

“The parties noted the historical bonds of friendship, rooted in ancient times, when the Spanish ambassador Rui Gonzalez de Clavijo was sent to the court of Amir Temur (Tamerlane). They discussed the prospects for further cooperation between Uzbekistan and Spain to promote tourism, ”the message says.

The King Philip VI recalled his meeting with the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in June 2017 in Astana in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

“As a further strengthening of friendly bilateral ties, the partes discussed the possibility of supplying Uzbekistan with two more Spanish Talgo high-speed trains, which connect the country's major tourist cities,” Aziz Abdukhakimov said.

The King of Spain also expressed a desire to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan after the improvement of the pandemic situation.

Earlier, a delegation of Uzbekistan headed by Aziz Abdukhakimov attended the 113th session of the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

During his stay in Spain, the head of the Uzbek delegation also met with UNWTO Secretary General Zurab Pololikashvili.
