8,000 students will be admitted to the future Mirziyoev University in Tashkent, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said on January 15 at a meeting in Tashkent’s Yunusabad district.

“We will build a presidential university, where we want to introduce Oxford’s education for the first time in Uzbekistan. The British education ranks first in the world. We have opened new presidential schools, now we will open a new presidential university for 8,000 students. All teachers will be from abroad,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

He noted with regret that half of the youth who after studying abroad are not returning home.

“Our children go overseas for studies, with 50% of them not returning. There is a "brain drain". They prefer to work there, where the pay is high. But now we want to create these conditions back home. We want that they do not leave in the first place,” he noted.

For the first time, Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the opening of a presidential university in the capital in March 2019.
