The Uzbek journalist and blogger Abdukarim Mirzaev, who was arrested by Turkish police in Istanbul on December 11, has been released, the religious channel RegistonTV, where he worked, said on its website. All charges have been reportedly dropped.
“Our colleague Abdukarim Mirzaev has just been released from the foreign nationals detention center of the Istanbul Migration Service,” the site said in a statement.
The statement added that the journalist was now at home and had plans to tell about the events on the air.
Abdukarim Mirzaev was arrested because of his alleged links to "suspicious persons". It was reported that after his lawyer provided the relevant documents, the suspicions were refuted. At the same time, the General Prosecutor's Office of Uzbekistan announced that the Uzbek side had nothing to do with the arrest of the journalist.
As previously reported, Abdukarim Mirzaev uploaded videos to the social networks of the channel, on which he relates instructive stories, traditions and legends.
