The Director General of Khorezm Territorial Electrical Networks Muratbay Bazarimbetov was arrested in his office on December 24 suspected of taking a bribe.
A representative of the Urgench City Council of People's Deputies said that Bazarimbetov was suspected of allegedly asking US$ 20,000 from a businessman through a proxy in return of connecting gas filling station to the power grid. He reportedly made a discount down to US$ 15,000.
As a result, the businessman turned to the deputy, who, called the police. The businessman agreed to contribute to the operation. On December 24, Muratbay Bazarimbetov was arrested after a confidant brought money into his office.
According to the deputy, as part of the operation, the conversation between the proxy and the general director was recorded. The latter supposedly said, “Did he give all the money? Did you take it all? Put it in this drawer. "
As an investigation is underway, Muratbay Bazarimbetov has been taken into custody, the deputy added.
