An outdoor skating rink will open in front of the State Academic Grand Theater named after Alisher Navoi in Tashkent on January 7, the Tourism Development Committee said in a statement.
On the opening day, the Russian figure skating Olympic champion Alexei Yagudin will perform with his Winter program, and a concert featuring Uzbek pop stars.
The rink and the festive area will be open for one month, with a number of entertainment and sports events scheduled.
The concert area will host the Dance Music Fest Winter, the Iosis Fest rock festival, the Tashkent rap festival, and the ice hockey rink itself will host a youth ice hockey championship and an ice dance show.
The project of the outdoor rink is presented by the Tourism Development Committee and Art Uz Promotion Agency with the support of the city mayor’s office. The goal is to popularize healthy lifestyles and sports, the statement concluded.
