Today, December 31, Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the presidential press service reported.

The two leaders reportedly exchanged warm congratulations on the upcoming new year 2021.

The leaders emphasized that in the backdrop of the coronavirus pandemic and the negative impact of its consequences on the world economy, the two countries managed to ensure the progressive development of mutually beneficial cooperation and partnership ties between Uzbekistan and Turkey.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the support and assistance provided in the fight against the pandemic.

The presidents also noted with satisfaction the results of cooperation in the trade and economic sphere. The two-way trade figures and transport links have been preserved, about 300 new enterprises have been set up in a year with the participation of Turkish investors. The leading companies of the two countries are implementing major projects in the field of energy, urban planning, infrastructure modernization, agriculture and other sectors of the economy.

“To support the ongoing institutional reforms in priority areas, qualified Turkish experts and consultants have been engaged. The program of cultural and humanitarian exchange is expanding. The heads of state spoke for the tapping the full potential of Uzbek-Turkish ties and the development of full-scale cooperation,” the press service noted.

The importance of the early adoption of the preferential trade deal between Uzbekistan and Turkey was also emphasized, which will allow elevate the volume of bilateral trade to US$ 5 billion in the coming years.

Earlier it was reported that Uzbekistan and Turkey would sign a preferential trade deal in early 2021.
