On December 27, residents of the Obi Hayot mahalla in Muzrabad district of Surkhandarya province blocked a road and burned car tires in a sign of discontent due to the lack of electricity. A footage of surfaced on social networks that the action took place in front of Headquarters of the 2nd sector (every city and town are divided into 4 sectors between tax, prosecutor, police and customs authorities, with these responsible for the development of the sector).

The district mayor’s office commented on the incident. The statement said that the interruption in the supply of electricity was due to the failure of a 630 kVA transformer unit on December 25.

On December 26, a replacement 400 kVA transformer was installed. However, due to the sharp increase in energy consumption caused by the onset cold, this transformer also failed.

At the moment, the problem has been resolved, the office noted. On December 27, a new 630 kVA transformer was installed in the neighbourhood, and the households were reportedly provided with energy.
