On December 26, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the newly commissioned Sergeli metro line. “Despite the difficult situation caused by the pandemic, the work in our country did not stop. Major projects are being launched one after another. This year, on the eve of Independence Day, the phase I of the elevated metro was commissioned. And on these pre-holiday days, another important link in the new transport system, the Sergeli line, was commissioned,” the presidential press service said.
The designing of the line began in 2017. Five stations were built on the 7-kilometer line. At the junction of the line with the Olmazor station of Chilonzor line, a 580-meter bridging tunnel has been laid, and underground and overhead crossings have been built.
“The line has a throughput of 35 thousand passengers per day. Therefore, it is of great economic, social and environmental importance. For example, the highway connecting the Sergeli district with the downtown, in most cases, overloaded, cars are in a traffic jam. As a result, harmful emissions into the atmosphere increase. People do not reach their destination on time, they get frustrated. In this regard, the new line of the elevated metro will create convenience for the public,” the statement added.
At the terminus station was held a presentation of the connection project of Sergeli line with Quyliq line, the construction of the next phases of the metro.
“Could anyone even imagine that the metro would come to Sergeli ?! Now, today there is a great convenience for our people. In addition, it is ecofriendly transport. The next lines should also be built that are comfortable for the public, safe and of high quality, and study foreign experience,” the head of state concluded.
