The Korea Republic has contributed US$ 1 million to the UN Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan. An agreement to this effect was signed between the government of the Republic of Korea and the Foundation's office in New York on December 17.

According to the Fund, the money will be used to assist the population of the Aral Sea region in improving their socio-economic conditions, health and well-being.

In addition to its contribution, the South Korean government will also support various initiatives in the region. In particular, it is planned to provide a US$ 5.56 million grant through the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) within the framework of the multilateral development project of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in the Aral Sea region.

The Trust Fund under the auspices of the United Nations was established at the end of 2018. The first country-donor to the fund was Norway, which contributed US$ 1.1 million in 2019. In March 2020, the European Union provided 5 million euros to finance the Fund's projects. Finland joined the donor list in June. The government of Uzbekistan transferred US$ 3.5 million to the fund.
