Deputies of the Legislative Chamber reviewed Bill on amendments and addenda to the Criminal Code and the Code of Administrative Responsibility of Uzbekistan, the lower house said in a statement.
The MPS reportedly decided to delete the provision entailing imprisonment for libel and insult from the Criminal Code.
“The existing punishment of house arrest or imprisonment of up to 1 year could be replaced with a fine or compulsory community work in proposed amendment,” the statement added.
In addition, the deputies proposed to introduce criminal and administrative liability for disseminating fake news and increase fines for distribution of pornography and for propaganda of cruelty.
The MPs approved the Bill and sent it to the Senate.
