The National program for development and support of reading culture for 2020-2025 was approved by a government resolution of December 14, the Ministry of Justice said in a statement.
One of the program’s priority sreas is the high-quality publication of books that “meet the spiritual, educational, artistic and aesthetic demands of the public,” first of all, the youth, assistance to the activities of publishing houses and writers, as well as support publishers of children's literature.
The program will be executed in three stages:
- improvement of organizational and legal mechanisms for development of reading culture in 2020-2021;
- strengthening the infrastructure for reading culture in 2022–2023;
- development of the reading culture among young people, improving the human capital through raising intellectual potential in 2024-2025.
According to the resolution, the Week of Reading will be held annually in the first days of April.
According to the "roadmap" for implementation of the program in 2020-2021, it is envisaged to develop a draft regulation to improve the issues of paying royalties to writers by publishers.
