Footages surfaced on social networks showing how residents of the Bukhara province blocked the highway, with authors claiming that people were protesting because of the lack of gas at homes.
On the footages, there are about 20 people, mostly women, and traffic police officers who are talking to them.
The incident was commented on in the Bukhara province governor’s office. “The situation is being studied by the governor’s office, heads of sectors and senior officials of the sphere. Based on the findings of the study, detailed information will be provided, ”the office said in a statement.
Last year residents of Andijan, Fergana and Karakalpakstan blocked roads due to lack of gas and electricity in order to draw the authorities' attention to their problems.
