President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on February 22, 2017 signed a decree "On granting citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan". The decree has satisfied the applications and granted citizenship to 94 people.

Uzbekistan, in relation to granting citizenship, "adheres to the principles of legality, humanity and social justice, and will systematically take measures to ensure observance of human rights", the decree said.

"Reaffirming the commitment to democratic values ​​and to the generally recognized principles of international law, based on the ideas of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Uzbekistan will guarantee the right of everyone to a citizenship", - the document added.

"The citizenship of the Republic of Uzbekistan, shall be granted to local people regardless of their origin, social and property status, race and nationality, gender, education, language, religion, political or other opinion, as well as natives of other countries who genuinely see Uzbekistan as their homeland, and make a worthy contribution to its development and prosperity", - it stated in the decree.
