The Uzbekistan government issued a resolution on November 11 rescheduling the population census from 2022 to 2023, the State Statistics Committee said in a statement.
The decision was due to "this census being the first census in the country since independence, and requires thorough preparation for conducting a high-quality census."
"The population census is a massive, time-consuming and costly activity that requires 2-3 years of preparatory work," the statement added.
The committee also noted that many countries are now postponing the population census to a later date due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
