Iman Karimova, the daughter of Gulnara Karimova posted a message on October 22 on her Instagram page regarding her mother's health. She said that "her mother’s condition has worsened dramatically over the past few days."
“Our lawyers were informed in a phone call that Gulnara is now in a medical unit, with severe inflammation of both lungs. Medical assistance is not being visibly provided to her, she is not allowed to have a test for COVID-19. We are unable to hand over medicines and devices for treatment,” the message says.
The press service of the Main Office for Serving of Punishments (MOSP) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs denied the allegations stating that G. Karimova’s condition is good. She is not infected with COVID-19, and has no lung pneumonia whatsoever, the ministry said.
The colonel Umida Abdullayeva, deputy head of the Main Office for the Prevention of Offenses of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, denied reports of Gulnara Karimova's suicide. “The reports about her alleged suicide and other negative treatments are unfounded. Gulnara Karimova is serving the sentence imposed by the court,” she said.
A Tashkent Times source in law enforcement agencies said that Gulnara Karimova passed two coronavirus tests, both negative.
In addition, on November 12, at a press conference on gender equality, Chairperson of the Senate Tanzila Norbaeva commented on messages around Gulanar Karimova. “Now we are talking about gender equality. Everyone is equal before the law be it woman or a man,” she said.
Since the spring of last year, Gulnara Karimova has been serving her sentence in the general colony No. 21 of the Zangiata district of Tashkent province. In March, the Supreme Court announced that she was sentenced to 13 years and 4 months in prison.
