On September 28, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev chaired a meeting on the effectiveness of reforms in the system of technical regulation, standardization, certification and metrology, the presidential press service said.

The meeting reportedly analyzed the effectiveness of efforts and discussed important tasks for the future.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev identified the main tasks such as giving the Uzstandard agency the status of a national body, targeted implementation of new standards at enterprises.

He had set a task to bring the number of international standards implemented in Uzbekistan to 14 thousand and the level of compliance of the national standards to 50 percent by the year-end.

The responsible ministries and associations have been instructed to expand the application of the OEKO-Tex standard in textile factories, CE marking in the electrical industry, and Global G.A.P. systems and Organic in agriculture. He emphasized the importance of assisting enterprises in implementing international standards and partly covering part of costs from the funds of the Export Support Agency.

“If a product does not have an international standard, it will never be competitive. It is necessary to create an environment in which every business in the country knows and understands the standards,” the President said.

Uzstandard agency was instructed to develop roadmaps for 2021 for the implementation of international standards in the production of automotive components, in the chemical, food and building materials industries.

“Factories and plants around the world are constantly improving their products in accordance with market demands.Therefore, standards limiting the capacilities of manufacturers should be transferred to the voluntary category. Over 5 thousand outdated standards must be scrapped, technical regulations for product safety must be upgraded to comply with the standards of Europe and the Eurasian Economic Union. At the same time, the number and scope of safety requirements will be increased to prevent the import of low quality goods,” the statement noted.

The President emphasized the importance of intensifying the participation of the Uzstandard Agency in international organizations for standardization and metrology.

The Agency was also instructed to reach an agreement on dried fruits with the technical committee of the Economic Commission for Europe, as well as to ensure next year full membership in the International Accreditation Forum.

He pointed to the need for R&D and education in this area. It was noted that next year, research should be carried out in the field of energy efficiency in conjunction with the Tashkent State Technical University, in the field of genetics of agricultural products - with the Institute of Chemical Technology, synthetic fibers - with the Textile Institute, biologically active additives - with the Center for Advanced Technologies.

It is planned to set up departments of building materials, information and water-saving technologies at the Uzbek National Institute of Metrology. The Ministry of Innovative Development will provide grants for scientific research.

At the meeting, a presentation was made on the work carried out by the Uzstandard Agency and further plans of the department.
