The Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan issued a statement on the situation on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. The Uzbek Foreign Ministry is reportedly very concerned with the escalation of tension in the relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, the statement said.
The use of military force during the confrontation can lead to numerous casualties on both sides.
Uzbekistan, as the chair of the Commonwealth of Independent States, reiterated the importance of strengthening the ties based on friendship, good-neighborliness and mutual trust, the peaceful resolution of differences in the CIS strictly in accordance with international law.
The Foreign Ministry called on the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia to end hostilities as soon as possible and start diplomatic negotiations with a view to a peaceful settlement of the conflict while respecting the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
