Construction works of Urgench to Khiva rail road commenced on February 10, the website of the province governor’s office said. The project is being implemented pursuant to the President Shavkat Mirziyoev’s instruction during his visit to the province on 27-28 January.
The President stated the need to build a modern railway station in Khiva city and the possibility of launching in the future of Afrosiyob high-speed train to the historic city.
The rail link will increase the capacity of passenger and freight traffic in the province and will boost the flow of tourists, the site added.
There is an ongoing project of construction of a 400-kilometer Navoi-Kanimekh-Misken rail road, with the commissioning of which the distance between Tashkent and Urgench will be reduced.
