Akmal Burkhanov has been appointed Director of the Anti-Corruption Agency, a source in the government told the Tashkent Times.
Prior to this appointment, from January 2019, he headed the Yuksalish (transl. Ascent) National Movement (YNM). According to YNM, the July 14 Presidential decree on the appointment was approved by the Senate.
Akmal Burkhanov worked as the Executive Director at the Development Strategy Center in 2017-2019. In 2015-2018, he was the member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Inter-Parliamentary Relations of the Legislative Chamber, and since 2018, he has been a member of the Committee on Health Protection of Citizens of the Lower House of Parliament.
In 2002-2007, he worked in various positions in the Ministry of Justice. In 2009–2015, he was Executive Director of the Representative Office of Nagoya University (Japan) in Uzbekistan. In 2012-2016, he gave classes at the Presidential Academy of Public Administration.
Akmal Burkhanov got the undergraduate from the Tashkent State Law University in 2001, and the graduate degree in 2003. In 2007 he graduated from Nagoya University (Japan, master's program). Since 2007 ha has been studying at the PhD degree at Nagoya University.
The Anti-Corruption Agency was set up by the June 29 presidential decree and is designated to develop and implement national anti-corruption policies.
