There will be no second wave of coronavirus infection in Uzbekistan in summer due to heat, Khayrulla Mustafayev, a senior researcher at the Virology Research Institute said.
Many scientists around the world are expecting a second outbreak of coronavirus disease, like in China. However, in our conditions there will be no second wave of infection, not before autumn, he added. The temperature is approaching a high point, we are expecting quite a heat, in such conditions the virus will not spread.
"The virus needs temperature of five to eight degrees above zero and humidity of at least 60 percent. We do not have such conditions. But this does not mean that one should become complacent. Wearing masks, regular hand washing and social distance should become a norm, he noted.
He said that high humidity is ideal for the spread of coronavirus - therefore, China and Southeast Asia became its natural focus. In Uzbekistan, the climate is dry and hot. He also recalled that in the summer, colds always retreat.
