The Legislative Chamber at its today’s session approved the government’s proposal for Uzbekistan to join the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as an observer state.
According to the deputy speaker, the head the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party, Alisher Qodirov, the MPs backed Uzbekistan’s joining the EAEU as the observer-state.
132 out of 150 deputies participated in the vote. 86 deputies voted in favour, 32 - against, 14 abstained.
Prior to the vote, the leader of the Milliy Tiklanish, with 36 seats in the lower house of parliament, said the party was opposed the country's membership in the EAEU “even as an observer”.
“The party considers it appropriate to maintain the ties with the EAEU member states in the bilateral fromat,” Alisher Qodirov noted.
Now this matter will be reviewed by the Senate.
