Officials of the Uzbek Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade held a videoconference with the Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for South and Central Asia Christopher Wilson, the ministry said.

The parties reportedly discussed the ways to advance Uzbekistan’s joining the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The video conference was also by a number of members of the Interagency Commission on joining the WTO.

The Assistant U.S. Trade Representative C. Wilson praised the measures taken by the Uzbek government in the framework of accession to the WTO and reaffirmed the readiness of the United States to provide full assistance to Uzbekistan in this process and pointed to the need speed up the initiatives despite the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

He also noted that the coronavirus pandemic and the cancellation of events at the WTO headquarters in Geneva in the end of April this year could somewhat allow the Uzbek side to better prepare for the 4th meeting of the Working Group on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO and for the negotiations with the member countries.
