The elder daughter of the late president Karimov, Gulnara Karimova, penned an open letter to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which was published in her daughter Iman Karimova’s Instagram account.

In her letter, she stated her readiness to renounce from claiming the US$ 686 million frozen in Switzerland in return for dropping criminal charges against her.

“For the sake of my family and health, under the adequate terms, I’m ready to drop all claims for money - the only funds remaining frozen in Switzerland banks in case of “simplified case closing procedure“, that is, without a public court, with the transfer to the state of US$ 686 million,” the statement said.

Gulnara Karimova added that she had already done that partly, having withdrawn the protests worth of US$ 131 million, which, by decision of the Swiss prosecutor's office, are be returned to Uzbekistan.

“[The Supreme Court] has been simply ignoring all my letters, despite the procedure, moreover, until now, the court’s sentences against me have not been handed over to me and I have never signed them with an acquaintance,” the letter says.

According to Karimova, all the sentences have already been served, including, inter alia, the terms of house arrest. “Even if we consider only the time spent in prison and the colony, the remainder of the period without applying pardons is within a few months,” the letter says. She recalled that she had been detained in February 2014.

Gulnara Karimova believes that "the state can also benefit from a correct approach to this issue and funds in quite tangible amounts can be contributed to humanitarian projects (medicine, education, etc.)."

, the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan reported In July 2017that Gulnara Karimova was sentenced to five years of house arrest prison in August 2015., with the investigation of another criminal case against her was ongoing. The total amount of damage caused to the state interests and citizens in two criminal cases was estimated at 3.7 trillion soums, or US$ 390 million.

In March 2019, Gulnara Karimova was transferred to the general regime colony No. 21 of the Zangiata district for the alleged violation of sentence terms. Several criminal cases are being conducted against her, including being accused of embezzlement and damage to the state.

At the end of last year, the Prosecutor General’s Office announced that it was collaborating with the United States, Switzerland, France, Russia and Latvia authorities on the issue of returning Gulnara Karimova’s the revenues worth over US$ 1.3 billion.
