Containers for collection of solid household and e-waste will be arranged at major retailers, in particular, at Mediapark supermarkets chain and in public places in Tashkent. Later, mobile collection units will operate on Tashkent streets.

The pilot project is implemented by TashRangMetZavod (trans. Tashkent non-ferrous metals plant) and the Committee for Nature Protection as part of the Program of joint measures aimed at promoting pro-environmental behaviour among the population through recycling of solid household and e-waste in Uzbekistan for 2016-2020.

The recently launched contest: "Stand with us for a green future" is also part of the program. The best poster and video on environmental awareness in the field of waste management will be selected.

"The project also aims at creating facilities for waste collection, - said the deputy head of non-ferrous metal waste collection department of TashRangMetZavod, Janibek Berdiyev. - People are not always ready to travel a long distance to recycle an old computer or a hair dryer. And we want to arrange special collection points available in all districts of the city, thus raising awareness on wastes. "

TashRangMetZavod unit will also be engaged in recycling of e-waste on the plant’s high-tech lines.

Recycling of household appliances is a very time-consuming and costly process, experts say. However, it is very crucial for protection of environment.

TashRangMetZavod specializes in collection and processing of secondary ferrous metals, has the necessary infrastructure and technology and manufactures consumer goods from recycled materials.
