The Information and Mass Communications Agency under the Presidential Administration published for discussion a bill providing for deleting the provision ofimprisonment from the Criminal Code for libel and slander as per the instruction of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of December.
the draft bill envisages to delete punishment in the form of restriction of liberty for up to 1 year or imprisonment for up to 1 year from the Criminal Code for libel, while keeping fines or compulsory community service from 300 to 360 hours.
While, liability for libel and slander “in the information resources of the Internet” is proposed to be inserted.
The draft bill also proposes to supplement article 327 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (media reports that may give rise to criminal proceedings) with the phrase “and information resources of the Internet”.
