The Prosecutor General's Office announced the opening another criminal case against the daughter of the late president Karimov, Gulnara Karimova, which was reportedly “due to surfacing of new evidence,” the Office said in an official statement.

“The investigation established that Karimova G. possesed another Organized Criminal Group infiltrated to the industrial enterprises in Uzbekistan, providing her with a share of the proceeds of crime. In addition, G. Karimova, through pressure and intimidation, forced citizens and owners of various companies to hand over their property to companies controlled by her, ”the statement added.

The amount of damage in the new case was estimated at over US$ 165 million and 85 billion soums.

Currently, the investigation of the case is over, Gulnara Karimova is getting acquainted with the materials of the criminal case with the participation of seven lawyers, the statement said.

On December 3 her daughter Iman Karimova on her Instagram page announced that her mother’s prison sentence was extended, adding that “due to the increased flow of questions, our team will begin publishing full information about the politically motivated case against Gulnara Karimova”. She called the case "the fifth attempt" by the authorities "to extend her sentence and keep her in complete isolation."

In July 2017, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that Gulnara Karimova was sentenced to five years of restriction of liberty (house arrest) in August 2015. Gulnara Karimova has been charged with Extortion, Embezzlement, Making transactions contrary to Uzbekistan’s national interests and organization of a criminal community.

Due to violation of house arrest terms, on March 5 this year, she was transferred to the general regime colony No. 21 of the Zangiata district of Tashkent province.
