President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution aimed at improving the Uzbekistan News Agency (UzA), the state-owned news agency, the presidential press service said.

The document reportedly aims at "prompt, quality and unbiased spreading of news locally and abroad about the true essence and content of the fundamental reforms carried out in Uzbekistan, the development of the national news space, and the strengthening of Uzbekistans’s position in the global media space."

The resolution notes that "the current system of press, media, information dissemination, spreading of with objective information, offering Uzbekistan news to the world, bringing foreign news to local audience has failed to match modern trends."

UzA has been entrusted to prepare stories on Uzbekistan’s domestic and foreign policies, "large-scale reforms, socio-political and socio-economic transformations taking place in society", laws, decrees, official statements and addresses of the president, resolutions of the Oliy Chambers Majlis and the government, information on their activities, as well as the preparation of information-analytical and analytical-critical materials.

UzA will keep a database (information, photo and video materials) on the social, economic, political, historical and cultural development of Uzbekistan for use by all media, individuals and legal entities, as well as create social projects aimed at discovering the culture, national customs and traditions of the Uzbek people.

a Media Center will be set up under UzA, , which will prepare informational, analytical and multimedia materials, conduct broadcasts and online reports, audio and video materials from venues.

By the resolution, it is planned to launch a new UzA portal by May 1, 2020.

Before spring, it is planned to raise the pay of UzA’s employees "using market principles with the study of international best practices."
