The State Customs Committee (SCC) of Uzbekistan proposed to Turkish colleagues to speed up the preparation of an intergovernmental treaty on creation of a simplified customs corridor, the SCC said.

The first meeting of the joint customs council of the heads of customs authorities of Uzbekistan and Turkey, created back in April 2018, was held in Tashkent. It was chaired by the chairman of the State Customs Committee, Murotjon Azimov, and the Deputy Minister of Customs and Trade Riza Tuna Turagay.

“It is necessary to begin the necessary procedures for the internal coordination of the draft international treaty between the governments of Uzbekistan and Turkey on the creation of a simplified customs corridor,” the statement said.

According to the State Customs Committee, currently more than 750 enterprises with the participation of Turkish companies have been created in Uzbekistan, while in January-October 2019, the two-way trade volume reached US$ 1.97 billion, a 26.9% increase compared to 2018.

Uzbekistan also proposed to enter into the inter agency agreements on the presentation and exchange of preliminary information on goods and vehicles, as well as on methodological and informational cooperation in the field of statistics.

Following the meeting, the customs authorities of the two countries agreed to develop an action plan for 2020–2021 in law enforcement, focusing on areas such as smuggling, illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking and other customs offenses, the State Customs Committee added.
