On 24 July 2019, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Ferghana city within KOICA’s project for Establishment of Vocational Training Center in Ferghana province in Uzbekistan. The First Deputy Minister of Employment and Labor Relations of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mukhitdinov E.M., Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan Kang Jae Kwon, Director of KOICA Uzbekistan Office Son Sung Il, representatives of the Ferghana provincial administration, project’s designing and construction companies and other high level guests attended the event.

The Ferghana vocational training center is planned for commissioning in 2021 with 5 educational facilities, including Electricity, Automotive, IT, Beauty and Dress-making with a total floor area of 5,455㎡. The designing works of the center have been implemented by “HSnK Architecture & Engineering Group” LLC and “POLARIS Project” LLC, and the construction works will be carried out by “ILJIN E&C Co., Ltd & EM-DER-SAL INSHAAT” JV.

The Ferghana project includes the construction of the main and practical training buildings and a dormitory, provision and installation of modern high-tech equipment and tools, as well as dispatch of experts and technicians for providing efficient and quality education and smooth operations of the center. Through long-term and short-term courses the Center in Ferghana plans to train annually 480 skilled specialists in the fields of Electricity, Automotive, IT, Beauty and Dress-making.

"We express our gratitude to the government of the Republic of Korea for sharing their experience in industrialization through human resource development and Uzbek side will actively cooperate with the Korean partners to ensure that the project is successful," said Mukhitdinov E, the 1st deputy minister of employment and labor relations.

Ambassador Kang Jae Kwon, stated, "In the three vocational training centers that KOICA has already established in Uzbekistan, over 90% of the graduates have succeeded in finding employment and are recognized as a cradle for human resources development. I hope this project will contribute to strengthening competitiveness of local industries by cultivating human resources and lead to income increase of local residents. KOICA will continue its assistance in the field of vocational training, and will make every effort for decreasing unemployment and for preparing highly qualified technical specialists through implementation of TVET projects in Uzbekistan."

Korea International Cooperation Agency is a government agency responsible for implementing grant aid programs of the Republic of Korea through rendering technical assistance, supporting socio-economic development and enhancing international development cooperation as well as strengthening partnership ties with partner countries. KOICA started the development cooperation with Uzbekistan in 1992 and during the years of cooperation KOICA, jointly with the Government of Uzbekistan, has worked on 30 various projects, amounting to a total of more than 125 million US dollars, ranking 1st in volume among the Central Asian countries.
