After the former prosecutor general Otabek Murodov was sacked, several high-ranking officials of the Prosecutor General’s Office were also ousted.
According to media reports, most of the fired were close to the ex-Prosecutor General, of whom about ten people are now being investigated as part of the criminal case.
In addition, several employees were dismissed in some provincial and district prosecutor's offices.
The prosecutor general’s office has not yet commented on the above media statements.
Earlier the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the 20th plenary session made remarks about the prosecution authorities:
“In a society in which the prosecutor is a bribe taker, there will never be any improvements. The senior officials must be honest and conscientious. I did trust Otabek Murodov. The moment they get a high post, they start to take bribes straight away. His team was was taking bribes from provincial prosecutors and governors 50-100 thousand US dollars in bribes. All of the tax authorities and prosecutors are bribe takers. I know it well. All those arrested will get long sentences”.
“If the things don’t change, I will cut the prosecution authorities staff, and will give more powers to the Ministry of Justice.”
