The Supreme Court of Uzbekistan sustained the appeal of the former political prisoner, human rights activist Ganikhon Mamatkhonov requesting rehabilitation from his charges under Article 211 of the Criminal Code.
Due to Mamatkhonov’s lack of finances to go to Tashkent and to hire an attorney, the Supreme Court provided him with a free attorney and proceeded on his case through video conferencing.
Mamatkhanov, who was arrested on October 12, 2009, was convicted on November 25 of that year under Giving Bribe and Fraud charges and was handed 5 years of imprisonment.
Ganixon Mamatkhonov, 67, was released on October 16, 2017 after 8 years in jail.
His sentence term was extended on 3 August 2014 by the Kyzyltepa District Criminal Court for another 2 years and 4 days.
