President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on May 28 establishing new procedure for e-visas, the Committee for Tourism Development reported.

According to the decree which will take immediate effect, the e-visas shall be issued for stays equal or less than 30 days from the date of entry to the Uzbek territory and shall be valid for 90 days from the date of its issue.

Prior to that, the e-visas were issued for stays equal or less than 30 days with single entry. If the validity of the visa at the time of entry was less than 30 days, the stay in Uzbekistan could not be longer than the validity period of the e-visa.

The move is reportedly aimed at increasing the average length of stay of tourists.

The regulation review was prompted by a case in early January when a Swiss couple was not allowed to leave the country due to tourist visa overstay of one and two days and which sparked public outcry. The Uzbek Tourism Committee then stated that the current regulations were failing to meet the modern trends.
