The daughter of the late president Islam Karimov, Gulnara Karimova, who was sentenced to five years of restriction of liberty on July 1, 2018 was transferred to a penal colony on Tuesday, the General Prosecutor's Office said in a statement. The statement provides a number of facts that were not previously not disclosed.

Gulnara Karimova, 45, was on December 18, 2017 sentenced by the Tashkent Province Criminal Court to 10 years in prison. On July 1, 2018, the punishment was replaced by a 5-year supervised restriction of liberty “out of humanity and taking into account that the convict undertook obligations to return the proceeds of crime and compensate for damage caused to the state."

Gulnara Karimova chose to serve the lenient sentence at the place of residence of her daughter Iman, while, a number of restrictions were established for her, “she was not allowed to leave the house, to use the phone and the Internet, and also to pay damages”

“The convict was explained that in the case of failure to serve the sentence, as well as non-performance of the duties assigned by the court, the court can replace the unserved term of the sentence with another punishment. However, Gulnara Karimova systematically violated the obligations established by the court when serving the sentence,” the statement added.

“On November 22, 2018, Gulnara Karimova left the place of residence, and was warned about the inadmissibility of violation of the procedure and conditions of the sentence. Despite the warning, Gulnara Karimova continued to violate the terms and conditions of the sentence, while repeatedly using communication tools, including the Internet; she was actively taking measures to prevent the compensation of the damage she caused,” the statement noted.

On the basis of a submission by the Probation Service under the Main Directorate of Corrections of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan, on March 5, the Yashnabad district criminal court decided to replace the punishment of Gulnara Karimova with imprisonment and serve the remaining term in a penal colony in accordance with criminal law.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iman Karimova told on her Instagram page that at about 07:00 PM the prosecutor officers had taken Gulnara Karimova from her apartment in her dressing gown in an unknown destination.
