The launch ceremony of the Judicial Reform in Uzbekistan Program took place yesterday in Tashkent, the Uzbek Ministry of Justice said. It will be implemented by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Ministry of Justice.
The 10 million USD program will be implemented during three years and is aimed at supporting the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan to ensure the rule of law, reforming the legal framework and the judicial-legal systems and to promote the development of civil society.
Among the main objectives of the program are the development of legal profession and employees of the judicial and legal system, creation of a favorable legal environment for civil society and non-governmental organizations.
In particular, partnership ties will be established with US universities to conduct joint research, to build the capacities of libraries, online learning and research resources.
There are plans to develop citizen oversight mechanisms by conducting case studies, developing the capacity of civil society institutions to ensure media support and monitoring the legal reforms.
