By the presidential decree of February 1, Bakhrom Ashrafkhanov has been appointed deputy finance minister in charge of social issues, the Ministry of Finance said.

Prior to this,  September he had served as interim chairman of Uzbekneftegaz since 2018, and before that in 2016–2018, Uzbek Ambassador to Russia.

Bakhrom Ashrafkhanov, 49, graduated from Tashkent State University of Economy with a degree in International Monetary and Credit Relations (1993). In 1993-1994, he studied at the University of Kentucky (USA).

In 2007–2016, he worked as Deputy Minister of Finance/Head of Treasury. In 2005-2007 he was the first deputy minister of finance, in 2004-2005 he was deputy minister of finance, in 2002-2004 he was deputy minister of finance/head of the Inspectorate for Insurance Supervision. In 1998–2000, general manager of the Uzbek-American insurance company UzAIG, in 1994–1998 - representative of the AIG Trading Group in Central Asia.
