Uzbekistan has decided to join the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Convention, the speaker of the Federation Council, the chairman of the IPA CIS Council, Valentina Matviyenko said at the meeting of the IPA CIS Council.
Chairman of the Uzbek Senate Nigmatilla Yuldashev arrived at the meeting on a special mission: to accede to the Convention on the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.
Nigmatilla Yuldashev signed the Convention, after which the flag of Uzbekistan was brought into the hall, and was placed on par with the flags of the member-states in the CIS IPA. Speakers of all parliaments greeted the event with applause, and Yuldashev took his seat on the Council of the CIS IPA.
“We congratulate our Uzbek colleagues and each other on this historic event without exaggeration - now our parliamentary family of the CIS is full,” said Valentina Matvienko. “And the delegation of Uzbekistan will have to catch up.”
“For us, Uzbekistan’s accession to the CIS IPA is a very significant event,” Nigmatilla Yuldashev admitted. “The convention opens up new opportunities for us to develop international cooperation and interaction with the parliaments of the CIS countries.”
